Yep – our 2nd annual Potluck Harvest Party is just around the corner, and this one is not to be missed! On Saturday, September 3rd we’d like to pull together as much of our food community as we can for a night of feasting, festing, fun-raising and fund-raising – and we really hope you can make it!
The party itself will take place at Elm Tree Gardens and will include some pretty special guests – including our friends from Sausage Partners, ChocoSol, and Hot Yam! to name a few…and King Roller and Samba Elegua to name a few more! We’ve also got plans of a preserve swap, a tomato tasting, kiddie gardening, communal cooking and more, and while we’re at it why not throw in a good cause… like a sustainable food source!
In the midst of all the revelry we’re hoping to raise some money to deck out our new bus ecostyles, making your food choice even more sustainable. Our dreams include biofuel and solar refrigeration, which would decrease our dependency on fossil fuels and ensure we can keep bringing your food to the city – affordably – no matter how high gas prices climb. Our goal is $3000, and to help us get there we’re asking for a donation at the gate – we’re suggesting $20 per person or Pay What You Can - no one will be turned away. We’ve also got a raffle in the works and some other plans to help raise funds while raising fun… it all equals fantastic!
Farms will be open in the afternoon for visitors (map coming soon) and the gates at Elm Tree will open at 4pm. Plan to bring your own drinks, dishes, cutlery and chairs, family, friends and casual acquaintances, and a dish to share if you can. Bring a tent if you’d like to camp – there’s plenty of field space here, and lots of nearby campgrounds, trailer parks, B & B’s, hotels… this is cottage country after all!
Instruments, games and other outdoor fun gear are also welcome, and remember there are lakes ands streams all around us – so swimming, boating and fishing are all options. Rain or shine, it’s going to be a great time – we’re prepared for either, but let’s hope for sun and stars anyway!
Maps and more exciting bits to come, including a carpool plan… Stay tuned!
Hope to see you there!
Shannon, Emma, and the rest of the KEG crew.
PS. if you’re interested in helping out with preparations, setup, events, music, etc. please let us know – volunteers welcome!
